I am an abstract painter and a poet living and working in rural New Hampshire.
I consider my paintings and poems as events with a sense of time. This time has duration but is unspecified or unspecific. Things definitively happen in my poems and paintings, however the what, when, and how remain unclear. Recurring themes include movement and boundary, safety and overwhelm, time and navigation.
In my most recent found word poetry project I cut words from discarded books. I collect thousands of words from which to choose and build a poem. This process can easily become trance-like drawing from both intention and intuition. The nature of this process lends itself to the unexpected and imperfect.
I approach my creative projects without plan or preconception. My work is process-based. Each successive mark or work guides the next. In this way, I travel with the work and we share agency and authority. We build a mutual relationship with trust.
